A Cup of Cold Water
Sophia loved spending time with her friends. She loved soccer practice, birthday parties, and sleepovers.
One Saturday morning, Sophia’s family was getting ready to go to church when her friend Ava called.
“Come to the park!” Ava said. “Everyone is here.”
Sophia looked at her mom.
“We are leaving for Mass in ten minutes,” Mom said.
Sophia felt disappointed.
She really wanted to go.
Then she remembered that loving Jesus means putting Him first.
“I’ll come after church,” she told Ava.
At Mass, Sophia listened carefully to the Gospel. Jesus said that even giving someone a cup of cold water because of Him was important.
After church, Sophia thought about those words.
That afternoon, she noticed an elderly neighbor working in her garden on a hot day.
The woman looked tired.
Sophia ran inside.
“Mom, may I bring Mrs. Wilson some cold water?”
“Of course,” Mom replied.
Sophia filled a cup with ice water and carried it next door.
Mrs. Wilson smiled warmly.
“Thank you, Sophia. I was very thirsty.”
The next day, Sophia helped her little brother clean up his toys. Later, she shared her snack with a classmate who forgot hers.
They were small things. But Sophia remembered Jesus’ words.
Small acts of love mattered.
She didn’t need to do something big or famous.
She could show her love for Jesus through simple acts of kindness every day.
From then on, whenever she had a chance to help someone, she remembered the cup of cold water.
And she tried to choose love.
Moral: When we put Jesus first and serve others with love, even small acts become special gifts to God.
