Living Your Faith At Home – The Second Week of Advent
The Catholic Advent wreath features four candles, each representing one of the four Sundays of Advent and symbolizing hope, peace, joy, and love. Each Sunday, a new candle is lit, gradually increasing the light as Christmas approaches.
The four candles have a special name and meaning. Each time you light the second candle during the week of Advent starting on December 8, a corresponding Bible verse and prayer can be said.
The Bethlehem Candle represents PEACE (purple candle). We recall how Mary and Joseph traveled to Bethlehem, where Jesus was born in a humble stable.
A message for the week: This week, we think about being ready for Jesus. Just like Mary and Joseph prepared for Jesus, we can work on being kind and loving.
Bible verse: “Mary gave birth to her firstborn son, wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.” – Luke 2:7
Prayer: Dear Jesus, you came to bring peace. Help us become the best version of ourselves and share your peace with others, especially those who need it most. Amen.
