The Gardener’s Special Seeds

At the edge of a little town stood a beautiful garden filled with roses, sunflowers, vegetables, and tall fruit trees. The garden belonged to an old gardener named Mr. Bell.

Everyone in town admired the garden because it was always full of life. Even in dry seasons, something bright and beautiful bloomed there.

One spring morning, Mr. Bell called his young helpers together.

“I have something important to share,” he said.

The children gathered around him. There was Ava, who loved strawberries, Eli, who could name every bird, and quiet little Nora, who liked planting tiny seeds in careful rows.

Mr. Bell held a small wooden box.

Inside were shining seeds unlike any the children had ever seen.

“These are very special,” he explained. “My father gave them to me many years ago. And now, I am giving them to you.”

The children stared in wonder.

“What makes them special?” Eli asked.

Mr. Bell smiled. “If cared for properly, these seeds grow into plants that help others. They give shade, food, beauty, and hope.”

“But what if we do it wrong?” Nora asked softly.

“You won’t be alone,” Mr. Bell said. “God, the source of all creation and love, will always be with you.”

For many days, he worked beside them. He showed them how to water gently, how to pull weeds carefully, and how to be patient when nothing seemed to grow.

“Healthy roots matter most,” he often reminded them.

But one afternoon, Mr. Bell gathered them under the tallest apple tree.

“Soon,” he said quietly, “I must travel far away.”

The children looked at each other in shock.

“You’re leaving?” Ava cried.

“Who will help us?” Eli asked.

Mr. Bell knelt beside them.

“You already know what to do,” he said kindly. “And you belong to one another now. Care for this garden together.  And whenever in doubt, pray to God for guidance.”

The children felt sad, but then they looked over the garden with pride.

That night, the children worked together longer than usual. Ava carried water buckets for Nora. Eli fixed broken garden fences. They began helping one another the way Mr. Bell had helped them.

Weeks later, Mr. Bell left on his journey, and the children missed him terribly.

But every morning, when the sun rose over the garden, they remembered his words.

Care for one another.

Help things grow.

Share what you’ve been given.

And slowly, the garden became more beautiful than ever before.

Travelers stopped to rest in its shade.

Hungry families picked fresh vegetables.

Lonely neighbors found peace among the flowers.

The gardener’s love for the children and God’s creation was still present.

Love had been planted and had grown inside each of them.

Moral: Jesus lovingly cared for His disciples and prepared them to continue His work by loving and caring for one another.  Jesus is with us today at Mass and the Sacraments, and like the early disciples, we are to tend the garden by spreading God’s message and loving one another.
