The Little Picnic That Became a Feast
In the village of Bethany Hill, the children were excited for the summer picnic behind the chapel. Each brought a small lunch, and little David had packed half a cheese sandwich and five crackers in his napkin.
Before they ate, Father Thomas gathered them around. “Today,” he said, “we remember something very special—how Jesus fed thousands of people and gave us a gift that feeds our hearts forever.”
The children listened closely as he told the story.
“Long ago, a huge crowd followed Jesus. They were hungry, but there wasn’t enough food. One small lunch was brought to Jesus—just five loaves and two fish. Jesus took it, blessed it, and gave it to the people.”
“What happened next?” asked David.
“Everyone ate until they were full,” said Father Thomas, “and twelve baskets were left over! That miracle reminds us of an even greater gift—the Eucharist. At every Mass, Jesus gives us His Body and Blood under the form of bread and wine. That’s what we celebrate on Corpus Christi—the Feast of the Body of Christ.”
David looked at his cheese sandwich and crackers. “Even small things can become big with Jesus.”
“Exactly,” said Father Thomas. “And His gift in the Eucharist is the biggest gift of all—it feeds our souls.”
The children smiled, thankful for their food, their faith, and the love of Jesus who feeds hearts forever.
Moral: The Feast of Corpus Christi reminds us that Jesus feeds not just our bodies, but our souls, through the gift of the Eucharist. Even the smallest offering can become something great in His hands.
