The Rock That Would Not Move
One sunny day near Galilee,
The birds sang sweetly in a tree.
Under this tree Jesus sat with friends,
Who heard the Truth that never ends.
He gently asked, “Who do they see,
When the people talk of me?”
“They say a prophet,” one replied.
“Or John the Baptist,” another cried.
“Some think Elijah’s come once more.
Some still are simply not quite sure.”
Then Jesus smiled and asked again,
“What do you believe, My friends?”
The twelve grew quiet, still as stone.
No one wished to speak alone.
Then Peter stood both brave and tall.
He answered clearly before them all.
“You are the Christ!” he gladly said.
“The Son of God!” his voice then spread.
Jesus smiled and then did say,
“Peter, blessed are you today.”
“My Father helped your heart to see
The truth of who I am indeed.”
“You are a rock, both firm and strong.
On faith like yours My Church belongs.”
He gave him keys, a special sign,
To guide God’s people through all time.
The other friends stood close to hear.
Their hearts were filled with joyful cheer.
Now every child can choose each day,
If they will follow Jesus’ way.
Not only speak with words so true,
But show His love in all they do.
When someone falls, do lend a hand.
When friends feel sad, beside them stand.
When telling truth is hard to do,
We ask for courage strong and true.
When someone needs a smiling face,
We gladly share God’s love and grace.
Our faith grows stronger every day
When we choose Jesus’ loving way.
A rock stands firm through wind and rain.
It does not run from storm or pain.
So when life’s troubles come our way,
We trust in Jesus every day.
Like Peter, we can boldly say,
“Lord, I’ll follow You every day!”
For Jesus knows each child by name.
His love for us is still the same.
He builds His Church with hearts that care,
With faith and hope that all can share.
So let your words and actions show
The love of Christ wherever you go.
And when you trust Him, come what may,
You’ll help His Church grow every day.
Moral: Like Peter, we are called to believe that Jesus is the Son of God and to follow Him by courageously loving and serving others with joy.
